CPR & First Aid for Merchant Mariner Applicants

Pulse Shift Academy offers CPR and First Aid training for mariners pursuing U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credentials, including OUPV “Six-Pack” applicants and other original officer endorsements.

Instruction is led by a U.S. Coast Guard-licensed OUPV (“Six-Pack”) mariner with more than 20 years of public-safety and emergency-response experience.

What the U.S. Coast Guard Requires

For original deck and engineer officer Merchant Mariner Credential applications, the National Maritime Center requires First Aid and CPR training. First Aid generally must have been completed within the 12 months before the application is submitted, and CPR must be valid at the time of application.

The Coast Guard accepts proof of American Heart Association CPR training and American Red Cross CPR training without a USCG course code. First Aid documentation rules are different, so mariners should verify that the First Aid course and completion documentation meet National Maritime Center requirements before applying.

Who This Training Is For

OUPV “Six-Pack” Applicants

CPR and First Aid training for applicants working toward an original Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels credential.

Master & Other Officer Applicants

Training for mariners pursuing original deck or engineer officer endorsements who need qualifying First Aid and CPR documentation.

Renewing Mariners

Renewal requirements can vary by endorsement and situation. We can provide current CPR and First Aid training, but mariners should confirm exactly what their renewal package requires with the National Maritime Center.

AHA & Red Cross Course Options

Pulse Shift Academy offers American Heart Association and American Red Cross course options. If you are taking the class specifically for a Merchant Mariner Credential application, let us know when you register so we can help you select the appropriate course and documentation.

Important: Pulse Shift Academy does not issue Merchant Mariner Credentials and is not the U.S. Coast Guard or National Maritime Center. Credential requirements can change, and applicants are responsible for confirming the exact requirements for their endorsement and application type.

Serving New Jersey Mariners

We serve mariners throughout Ocean, Monmouth, Middlesex and Union Counties and can provide group training at marinas, charter operations, boat clubs, workplaces and other suitable locations. Weekend class options may also be available as our classroom schedule expands.
